Wolfgang Kilian I
This is the first volume of the catalogue of the prints of Wolfgang Kilian (1581-1662) in the New Hollstein German series, replacing the ‘old’ Hollstein’s German volume XVIII, published in 1976. Included are engravings by his brother Lucas Kilian (1579-1637), which Wolfgang published again at a later state, with his address added. The compiler, Susan Tipton, found numerous prints catalogued here for the first time.
Since life and work of the two brothers Wolfgang and Lucas Kilian (1579-1637) are closely linked, there will be a separate volume Lucas and Wolfgang Kilian – Guide to the Catalogue with the general information for both: introduction (including illustrations of preparatory drawings and/or copper plates), literature, indices, concordances and an overview of the collections and libraries consulted.
The large portrait series of the Fugger family (Fuggerorum et Fuggerarum ... imagines) published in several editions was a joint production of the brothers. It cannot be catalogued under one name and is given a separate catalogue.
These catalogues follow The New Hollstein German volumes on the Custos-Kilian family: Dominicus Custos, volumes I-VII, published in 2022, David, Raphael and Jacob Custos, volumes I-III, published in 2023, and Lucas Kilian, volumes I-V, published in 2024-2025. The catalogue of the work of the next generation, Bartholomäus Kilian, is already in preparation.
